Obsolete but most definitely not forgotten. Why would I showcase an older model of jacket I hear you ask? Simply because this particular model of Berghaus jacket (mark II) is one that I have owned for approximately 10 years and it still one of my favourite jackets and I simply love it.
I have had this jacket under so many different conditions- from everyday general use to more extreme conditions whilst hiking and I have always been glad to have worn it. I also have the Berghaus fleece that zips into the waterproof layer - giving that extra versatility, it turns the jacket from a lightweight waterproof layer to a rockin' warm winter coat.
I had never owned a decent waterproof/performance wear kind of jacket before, I always just owned more fashion types of jackets until my partner gave this to me as a gift. I must admit I wasn't 100% impressed with the style of it but this is simply due to only wearing fashion coats and performance wear has a different look to what I was normally used to. Once I had worn it, that was it for me - no other jacket got a look in. It saw me through Uni, work and leisure without a single issue and as I live in one of the rainiest parts of the U.K (Lancashire) a waterproof jacket is essential!
Here is some more item specific info:
>Weight (minus fleece layer) approx 973g which is perfect if you have a lot to carry and you can pack it away easily. Lightweight but strong and breathable.
>jacket also carries the GORE-TEX®extreme wet weather guarantee which I can personally vouch for, I have never had rain soak through this jacket and it has seen a lot of it.
> convenient roll away hood with volume adjuster and stiffened peak. I personally LOVE this hood, you would be surprised how difficult it is to find a jacket with a hood like this- it never get's blown down by the wind, it actually covers your head (surprisingly a lot of hoods only seem to just about cover the top of your head?!) with the hood up and collar fully fastened you feel secure and toasty.
>There are plenty of pockets in this jacket for anyone's needs.
So it is safe to say I will have my BERGHAUS WOMENS GLISSADE 2 2 LAYER GORE-TEX IA SHELL JACKET for another 10 years hopefully. It will probably need the seams re-proofing with some Gore-tex waterproofing spray but other than that the jacket has loads of life left in it. I would 100% recommend this jacket to everyone!! This is a mark II of the Glissade range and the mark III is now more widely available however if the Berghaus women's Glissade III gore-tex jacket is anything like the Mark II then I would definitely buy one. I think the main upgrades to the mark III are the weight has been reduced and the general aesthetic of the design looks a little more streamlined. Other than that I think they are pretty similar. If anyone has the Glissade mark III and would like to share a word or two about it, then please feel free :) There's only so many coats one person can own so anyone else's experiences are welcome.
